If you have ever read Douglas Hofstadter’s book, I am a Strange Loop, you will know that a strange loop is a feedback loop with a circular hierarchy. In his book, Hofstadter talks about feedback loops created by pointing a camera at a screen displaying what the camera sees. It raises the question- What is the camera seeing? The screed displays what the camera sees, and the camera sees only the screen. If you want to experiment with strange loops yourself, you can easily create one by pointing a webcam at whatever window is displaying the webcam’s input, like the pictures I have inserted above. It’s amazingly mezmerizing.
